Japan loves Senkou Shoujo

December 1, 2007

Tokyo Jihen - Senkou Shoujo iTunes Japan Ranking Tokyo Jihen - Senkou Shoujo DVD Ranking
Since the debut of the Senkou Shoujo DVD (about a week and a half ago) Senkou Shoujo still remains #1 at almost all Japanese digital music retailers. The DVD also made a strong debut for a video compilation release, reaching #2 in total DVD charts beating many other artists live DVDs. As well, the YouTube Japan video for the PV is currently the #1 most watched music video for the month of November – beating other top artists. Although there is no physical audio track (besides the PV, featured on the DVD, and digital downloads) the song is gearing up to be one of the most popular Tokyo Jihen tracks. Upon why it wasn’t released on Variety is a mystery. Speaking of Variety, although the album hasn’t achieved the sales of its predecessors, weekly sales show that this album has legs – in other words, it continues to sell even long after the release date.

Senkou Shoujo was performed live on Music Station. The entire band looks great, and Shiina Ringo looks very cute. Kameda looks straight as always, and in regards to the band, they look extremely comfortable with each other. The live can be viewed here:

Tokyo Jihen – Variety 娯楽(バラエティ) Review

September 24, 2007

Tokyo Jihen - Variety

Tokyo Jihen’s 3rd album, Goraku (Variety).
Track 01 – Ramp = The Show’s Opening Credits
Track 13 – Metro = The Show’s Closing Theme

And, I am not afraid to say everything in between is pure sex in my ears.
Tokyo Jihen, you guys created an amazing album that justified every cent I paid for the CD. You created new music unlike anything else in the industry, yet drawing elements from the entire scene. This is what every artist should aim to achieve.

This album is beyond exceptional. Modernizing and inspiring from older music, such as founding pop and rock songs from the 70s to Hi-NRG and eurodance, this album is a feast. The drum-and-snare insanely catchy Mirrorball, the power ballad Shiseikatsu that brings instant nostalgia to anyone, the throaty bittersweet “strapped to a guitar” Fukushuu, the beautifully crafted multi-faceted technotronic Tsukigime-hime, and oh so much more, and ahhh I am in love again with Tokyo Jihen.

I secretly had my doubts how this concept would work, but damn it, they pulled it off flawlessly.

Will there be confusion?

Tokyo Jihen 3rd Album – “Variety” + Killer Tune single cover

July 10, 2007

Killer Tune image cover
[2007.08.22] Killer Tune
01 – Killer Tune (キラーチューン)
02 – BB.QUEEN
03 – Karada (体)

You saw this here first – the single cover image for Killer Tune. Following the style of OSCA’s single cover – Killer Tune features an almost identical setup – although, the hand holding the remote is different, presumably Izawa’s hand instead of Ukigumo’s. Speaking of OSCA, the single will be released tomorrow. The CD features a yellow and black checkerboard background, and reminds myself of a racing car flag.

As well, Tokyo Jihen has announced the title of their third album. It is called Variety, written as 『娯楽(バラエティ)』 ! The Kanji 娯楽 normally reads as Goraku which means ‘enjoyment’ or ‘pleasure’ (amusement). The album includes thirteen songs and will be released on September 26, 2007. Look forward to it!
